Today's GeneralMLS meeting was led by Don D. Davis, and the refreshements were provided by the always active affiliate Mark Gazzigli of Vitek. Thanks Mark!
Mark Gazzigli and Mark Brouillard provided our brief Mortgage Minutes, where the discussion concerned the importance of the completeness of loan documentation required of the borrower. In many cases the depth and complexity of the required documents has really increased. You need to prepare your clients for this new level of personal disclosure and documentation accountability.
You should really stop in over at the Shasta Board's online social network site. This Discussion topic about staying upbeat led to some really interesting and insightful replies from you fellow agents. There are some good tips there, and there are sure to be more added as your colleagues add more of their own ideas. Check it out, and please add your own thoughts to the discussion. Your tip could make a difference for somebody. Call Tracy at the office if you need help with access. See you online!
Our first guest was James Luna, Senior Loan Officer of Guild Mortgage Company of Redding ((530) 223-6244). He spoke for about 10 minutes on a topic of great impact to all of us. The value of ethical business affiliations, and the importance of ethical behavior to our profession. You can listen to a Podcast of his presentation at the link toward the end of this post. Well worth your time, and we extend our membership gratitude to James for his preparation and presentation on this crucial topic.
Our featured guest was J.M. Burgess, Attorney with the Maire & Beasley Law Firm ((530) 246 6050). He provided a 4 page handout that you can find here:
2008 Legislative Enactments.pdf (158.54 kb)
He spoke for about 30 minutes on the various new laws and how they affect your practice. You may want to open the file above before listening to the talk. He has a very interesting approach to contracts and organizing your thoughts so as to avoid liability, and that alone is worth your time. After his talk concluded, Don D. Davis had a few words to add to your perspective, and we have provided those for you as well. The topic of risk management to you and your client is endlessly fascinating in our complex field of expertise, and you can never know enough. You can add to your knowledge here, courtesy of our Board, and by the generosity of this top legal mind. Highly recommended.
